About

Founded in 1999, the Red Monkey Theater Group (RMTG) is a non-profit performing arts company dedicated to enriching local communities through the cultivation, creation, and presentation of live classical and contemporary theater.

In 2016, we began regular partnerships with an ever-expanding network of libraries and historical sites, including Bartow-Pell Mansion Museum in beautiful Pelham Bay Park, serving a growing audience of local New York residents from the surrounding Bronx neighborhoods and beyond. Our performance seasons are supported by workshops and talk-backs related to the plays we are exploring. This educational programming, open to everyone, is designed to offer audience members insight into the dramatic works we present, and the techniques used to bring them to the stage.

Through performances, workshops, and master classes offered at very affordable prices (and occasionally for free), we ensure that audiences and developing artists have enriching and inspiring theatrical experiences.

We have developed a vibrant stable of choreographers, performers, directors, technical staff, and designers, who all make vital contributions to our productions.

Our apprenticeship and internship programs are open to young artists ranging from high school students through recent college graduates. We typically engage 6-8 interns and apprentices per season (interns are typically students who receive academic credits for their work with us; apprentices are aspiring artists beginning their careers, who receive small stipends).

In partnership with M&M Performing Arts Company, Red Monkey also regularly tours the NYC metro area and performs at Lyndhurst in Tarrytown, NY, where our original stage adaptations of Sherlock Holmes mysteries lead audiences room-by-room through a historic Gothic revival mansion.

Environmental Responsibility Statement
Wherever possible, Red Monkey is dedicated to using sustainable resources in our productions. This includes recycling set pieces and using FSC certified lumber and non-toxic materials.
